What skin type are you?

The 4 different skin types:

  • NORMAL:
This skin type is properly balanced, lubricated and moistened. It has a soft smooth texture and is clear of blemishes with very few skin problems. Very few people have this skin type and is less sensitive.

  • OILY:
This skin type is out of balance; it is more oily than necessary and can be very acne prone. The skin has a thicker texture than normal skin and tends to be shiny and have a greasy feel. Pores are usually clogged with visible blackheads. Oily skin can also lack moisture caused by alcohol based products or over scrubbing. This skin type is more sensitive.

  • DRY:
Less oil production than what is needed to lubricate skin; looks dehydrated and may look 'aged'. The skin may also be dehydrated from under consumption of water. Dry skin has a dull appearance and feels dry, rough and may be flaking. This skin type may or may not be sensitive depending on the degree of dryness.

  • COMBINATION:
Most common skin type. This skin type is oily in some areas, while dry in other areas. Blemishes, better known as pimples may be confined to one or two areas of the face. The most common combination skin type is usually oily on the nose, forehead and chin (t-zone), and dry everywhere else. This skin type may be sensitive in some areas.

HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR SKIN TYPE.

Make sure that you wait for a minimum of 60 minutes if you've just washed your face so that your skins PH level can balance out to what it is regularly.

This is a quick and easy 2 step method on determining what your skin type is.

1) In a well lit room, look in the mirror moving the angles of your face to see if you have any acne, dry spots, and/or excessive oil production.

2) Now lightly glide the tips of your fingers over different areas of your skin to feel the different textures. Try and feel for oily and dry areas.

Now you have just completed your skin analysis. With the information that you've just noted about your skins appearance, and texture you can determine if you have; normal, dry, oily, or combination skin. If you are still unsure you may want to have an esthetician or dermatologist diagnose your skin type.

Remember your skin type may change due to any changes in the climate around you, your present health condition, or any changes made to your diet.
